Routesetting: Olympic Style Boulders

Olympic Style Boulders at BKB Lincoln Park

Ready to climb instead of just watching climbing? We’ve set Olympic style problems at each location. During the bouldering portion of Olympic Sport Climbing the climber(s) will be allowed to attempt a given boulder as many times as they wish within a 4 minute time limit.

To get credit for the problem, a competitor must start with both HANDS AND FEET on the designated start hold(s) marked with black tape. In order to get credit for finishing a climb the climber has to have both hands firmly matched on a designated finish HOLD marked with black tape for 3 seconds. Competitors can also get partial credit for reaching a scored handhold midway up the boulder called the ZONE HOLD marked with red tape.

Want more of the Olympic Experience?

Come in to any BKB Facility Tuesday, Aug 3rd – Friday, Aug 6th for a “mock competition” with BKB climbing instructors who will provide general instruction from 6pm- 9pm on the speed route* and boulder problems.

We’ll provide scorecards so you can track progress day-to-day and compare results with your fellow competitors to get a feel of what it’s like to compete with Olympic bouldering rules!

*Speed route not available at BKB Lincoln Park
