Introducing Sam Steinman – BKB Personal Trainer & Climbing Coach
Feb 28, 2018
Where are you from and what brings you to the BKB personal training team?
I am from Malibu California originally but moved to NYC to pursue training climbers exclusively.
How long have you been climbing and what is your favorite type of climbing?
I have been climbing for over 15 years, and by far my favorite type of climbing is traditional climbing.
What are your passions and hobbies off the wall?
What’s your relationship with climbing as it relates to Personal Training? In other words, can you tell us how personal training can help to improve one’s climbing skills?
Every human being will experience training in a unique way, similar to how every climber will solve a sequence with their own individualized beta. Personal training is not for everyone; however, the literature suggests those who seek to improve their abilities will benefit from direct coaching.
What’s one thing that every climber should be doing that you think most aren’t doing already?
Every new climber should be using their feet more, and more specifically, the tip of their climbing shoes. It is a shame how many individuals simply do not trust their toes!
Who is your favorite climbing hero?
As an ice climber and lover of timed racing events, my climbing hero is the late Uli Steck. Known as the Swiss Machine, he slashed speed records on every continents highest peaks and was the first of his kind. May he rest in peace.
What are you most excited about for BKB?
I am excited to be part of the BKB family and to climb with new people from all over the world.
If you were a student at Hogwarts, which house would the Sorting Hat place you in?
You know, I’d love to say “i’d fit in with Gryffindor” *pauses heavily*, but it’s a definite Slytherin for me.
