BKB Kids: A Message to Parents
Oct 02, 2014
In that respect, here are some useful things to know about climbing:
Beta: Climbing is all about problem-solving on the wall. Bouldering (climbing without a rope) routes are called problems because they ask you to figure out a route sequence before climbing. There is always a designed way to do a problem — that’s why route-setters have full time jobs! — and an optimal way to move your body up the wall. Beta is each move in a sequence.
Bouldering is a social sport and it is likely there will always be people hanging out on the mats, talking about problems, encouraging and cheering each other on. In addition to practicing teamwork and the ability to discuss a goal with common language, kids gain mental, emotional and physical awareness. They must always be aware of other people climbing. Climbing allows kids to experience success and learn from failure while in a secure environment. They must also focus and have patience!
Please reach out if you would like to organize a mobile wall event, would like to book a classroom, or would like to learn more about the benefits of being a BKB member.
