YOUTH TEAMS

From beginners to National Champions in training, The BKBeasts Climbing Team is a program created specifically for young climbers who want to progress while training in a fun, friendly and supportive environment. The team is split into small groups according to skill level, providing personal attention and a tailored experience for each individual.

  • Ages 7–18
  • Four sections with 1:5, 1:4 or 1:3 coach to climber ratio

The BKBeasts train in two consecutive twelve-week seasons: Bouldering Season and Sport Climbing Season

Bouldering Season

  • Bouldering
  • September to December (12 weeks of training and local competition)
  • Bouldering National Championships for qualifying competitors in February

Sport Season 

  • Top rope and sport climbing
  • February to May (12 weeks of training and local competition)
  • Sport National Championships for qualifying competitors in July

TRYOUTS

Tryouts are held prior to the start of each season and selection is based on the Team descriptions and criteria listed below. Please note the following:

  • 101’s: New BKBeast 101’s must attend tryouts for placement and assessment
  • Club Team: There are no tryouts for Club Team
  • Junior Competitive Team: New Junior Competitive climbers (non-team members, 101’s or Club Team members) must attend Tryouts for placement and assessment for the Junior Competitive Team
  • Competitive Training Team: There are no tryouts for the Competitive Training Team and selection is by invitation only

The Teams

Ages 7–10 | $600/Beast
Must attend tryouts for placement and assessment

The 101 program is all about having fun while making friends and learning new skills. We use lots of climbing and games, as well as the slow introduction of some training elements to keep these Beasts excited and interested while they grow as climbers. This program provides everything needed to get on the path to National Championships or a lifetime of recreational climbing.

  • Ages 7–10
  • Non-competitive team
  • Practice Mondays 4 PM–6 PM for 12 weeks
  • Facility access for the season

Ages 11–18 | $1,100/Beast
There are no tryouts for Club Team

Here, climbers will get the boost in focus and fitness they need to reach their goals and enjoy recreational climbing at whichever level they’d like to pursue. The focus of Club Team is an exploration of personal limits through creativity and climbing; pushing ourselves outside our comfort zones and into the land of innovation and growth through: goal setting, skill-building, camaraderie and personal commitment. While competition is not a requirement of this team, club members can choose to attend competitions along with members of the Junior Competitive and Competitive Training teams.

  • Ages 11–18
  • Non-competitive team; members can attend competitions
  • Practice Wednesdays 4PM–6:30PM and Sundays 9AM–11:30AM
  • Facility access for the season
  • Focus on goal setting, personal commitment to climbing and fun!

No age requirement | $1,300/Beast
Must attend tryouts for placement and assessment

The Jr. Comp team is reserved for young climbers with a love for climbing and a desire to develop a high level of climbing ability. The training program focuses not only on developing physical/mental strength, technical proficiency, and competition formats, but also on team building and having fun! Practices are two days a week at a 1:4 coach-to-climber ratio.

Climbers who attend tryouts  for the Junior Competitive Team will be assessed on the following criteria;

  • Bouldering – Onsite V3/Redpoint V4 +
  • Rope Climbing – Onsite 5.10/ Redpoint 5.11 +
  • Interaction with potential team-mates and coaches while projecting a climb
  • Must climb 1+ days outside of sanctioned BKBeast practice/training.
  • Have a commitment to year round climbing and physical fitness.
  • Exhibit a basic  level of technical movement and understanding of skills on the climbing wall.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to adhere to BKBeast’s Behavioral Standard on and off the wall
  • Have a desire to compete at the local, regional and divisional level.

Team Information

  • Practice Tuesdays from 4pm-6:30pm and Saturday from 9:00am-11:30am
  • Facility access for the season
  • Sponsorship from Adidas
  • 1:4 coach to climber ratio – specialized coaching based on your climbers long and short term goals.

No Age Requirement | $1,500/Beast
By invitation only

This team consists of young climbers who not only display the highest level of climbing ability, but also an unceasing perseverance and commitment to training and to the sport. Practices are three days a week at a 1:3 coach-to-climber ratio. Individual curricula and training plans will be designed by the coaching staff for each climber based on their seasonal climbing goals.

Selection for the Competitive Training Team is invitational. Our coaching staff will select  Team members who have consistently demonstrated exceptional ability and motivation during the previous season, or will identify new talent during the Junior Competitive Tryouts. Competitive Training Team climbers;

  • Must climb/train 2+ days outside of sanctioned BKBeast practice/training.
  • Have a commitment to year round climbing and physical fitness.
  • Demonstrate a high level of self motivation to work towards seasonal competitive goals.
  • Exhibit a high level of technical ability, movement skills and understanding on the climbing wall.
  • Have a high proficiency of technical movement.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to adhere to the BKBeast’s Behavioral Standard on and off the wall
  • Have a desire to compete at a National and International level.

Team Information
